Importance to Students with ASD
Every child wants to feel included and accepted in the classroom and children with ASD are no exception.
As I do not have ASD, it is difficult for me to describe why exactly this is important for children with ASD. Instead, below there are several children who will express their experiences in school, showing, in their own way, why inclusion for all in the classroom is important.
Watch the video below to hear children with ASD and their families discuss their experiences and thoughts about living with ASD.

Dear Teacher: A letter from H

Leah Kelley the administrator for the blog 30 Days of Autism is a special education teacher and a mother of a son with autism. In 2012 at the age of 13, Kelley's son, who she refers to as H, presented a poem called "Dear Teacher: A letter from H" to teachers in his school to explain how he experiences school. H explained how sounds and other senses affect him in the classroom. Teachers at his school responded well to this presentation, appreciating his courage to explain how autism affects his school life. While H's poem is not yet readily available on her website, Kelley has included excerpts of teachers' thoughts after the presentation on her blog. In reading his poem, H allowed his teachers to understand some of the feelings he has when he is at school and showed his teachers that it is important that they understand aspects of ASD in order to help him feel more comfortable in the classroom.
