Who Can Help?
Who can the teacher turn to?
Parents! One key aspect of creating an inclusive classroom for children is to get to know each child... and who is likely to know your students best then their parents? Parents, especially parents of children with ASD can provide teachers with methods that they know can help their child focus, participate and interact in the classroom. Constant open and honest communication with parents may also help provide teachers with a information about students' interests, behavioural issues and motivators.
If students have help at home, teachers, with parental permission, may also find it useful to communicate with home behavioural intervention consultants (or similar program consultants). This can allow teacher to see more of what trigger and prevents certain behaviours.
In addition to finding help at home, teachers may also find help within their schools through Speech Therapists, school nurses and other educators with experience with children who have autism.
I would like to complete further research on adult support that educators can turn to help create inclusive classrooms for children with ASD.
